Neighborhood

Columbia Heights, Washington

Subletting my bedroom and office in a lovely, spacious 2-story row house, with backyard and porch, central AC, w/d and dishwasher, in DC's Columbia Heights neighborhood. You'd share the home with my roommate, Sara, a 33yo union organizer by trade, community organizer by passion, sewing/knitting whiz, and all-around kind and generous person.

The home:
--My bedroom and office are on the second floor of our two-story apartment. Also upstairs: my roommate's bedroom and office, and the bathroom (w/ tub and shower).
--The bedroom: queen bed, plenty of drawer and closet space. A bunch of nautical charts from my days as a tall ship sailor!
--Office: desk, office chair, computer monitor & yoga ball, the comfiest reclining armchair.
Other spaces: Large sun-filled living room, full of plants. An equally spacious dining room teeming with vegetarian/vegan cookbooks. Our kitchen has a dishwasher, KitchenAid, Vitamix, necessities and niceties.
--Sunroom: attached to the kitchen with a washer/dryer
--Outdoors: Huge, leafy backyard, wooden patio with table and chairs. Front porch with a cushioned bench, if you prefer watching the neighborhood go by.
--Amenities: Central A/C throughout. Compost pickup at the back gate weekly. The house is even sunnier than the photos -- it was raining!

The Neighborhood:
--We're tucked away on a quiet residential block just off of bustling 14th street.
--12 min walk north from the Columbia Heights metro (green line); north-south bus routes on either side of the block (2 min walk) take you straight downtown or to the nightlife on 14th Street between V & M.
--The area is very bikeable; we're also one block from a reliable bikeshare station. By bike: 5 min to the Columbia Heights metro, 12-15 min to Dupont, 25 min to the Capital buildings, museums, and the mall.
--12-15 min walk to Mount Pleasant, which has DC's best farmers' market on Saturdays.
--Within 5 min by foot: some of DC's best dive bars, taco spots, and a great Ethiopian restaurant. All the other usual city things available right in the neighborhood!
--About half a mile from the start of the Piney Branch trail, which gets you on the Rock Creek trail in 1 mile more (great for morning runs). You're a 15-25 minute walk from multiple entrances to the jewel of Rock Creek park.

About This Lister

I'm a 30yo professional in the climate space. You'll find around some of my knitting supplies, a banjo (feel free to use :)), a bunch of books about degrowth & about AI being bad for the environment and plenty of queer and climate fiction.

Looking for: Someone communicative, neat / clean, and kind. My roommate and I clean up after ourselves while also looking out for and taking care of each other. She's a veritable sweetheart and always down to go to the community pool in the summer.
