Job Description: Caregiver/Coach needed for a 27 year old woman diagnosed with ASD and bipolar disorder.
Location: New York City, Upper East Side- Manhattan
About the client: Client is 27 years old. She enjoys taking walks, cooking, car rides, and being in nature. Client is verbal, but requires substantial support with ADLs, including needing hygiene support.
Pay: $30 per hour
Hours:
Wednesday through Friday 12pm - 6pm (start and end time somewhat flexible)
Option for evening hours at a higher rate for parents to go out to dinner (cab fare covered if later than 9pm)
Job Requirements:
One year of work experience as a caregiver in a family home for a young adult with disabilities and challenging behaviors ( written reference required)
Willingness and ability to assist with light housekeeping, cooking for the client and running household errands as needed
Ability to walk at a sometimes rapid pace for 20+ minutes with client
An interest in mental health
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Ability to remain calm under pressure and experience using de-escalation techniques
College degree preferred
Job Responsibilities:
Healthy meal and snack preparation, including shopping for food
Bathing and shampooing client if needed
Cleaning client’s room and bathroom, doing laundry and changing client’s bed sheets
Light housekeeping
Running family errands in the neighborhood (going to the pharmacy, grocery store etc.)
Giving daily vitamin and medicine if needed provided by parents
Accompanying client and parents to occasional doctors visits if needed
Supporting the client in cultivating interests such as listening to music and cooking/ meal planning
Taking client on daily walks and running errands with her such as to the grocery store to try to engage her
Providing companionship to the adult client while parents are out of the house
