Feeling overwhelmed by school decisions or wondering if alternative education is right for your family? As your educational consultant, I'll help you navigate curriculum choices, learning support, and teaching strategies to create a thriving learning environment tailored to your student. We will collaborate to evaluate your family's current needs, strategize to imagine solutions, and assemble a team to make those plans a reality.
A life-long fascination with teaching, instructional design, and alternative education prompted me to choose both my M.A. and PhD. programs for their strong pedagogical training.
I was homeschooled K-12, and have since been a student in private and public institutions, pursuing a wide variety of educational theories, models, and classroom types.
My background includes teaching at almost every level of age and education.
Young Children and Elementary:
I was an assistant and substitute teacher in an elementary school from pre-K through 2nd grade, and also worked with their aftercare programs at all elementary levels. As a nanny, I offered Montessori-style skills building with children 2-8 years old, fostering independence through cooking, dressing, pottytraining, and caring for their own possessions and spaces. I love collaboratively planning activities and teaching children to read.
Middle School:
I supported middle school students with incarcerated parents through general homework tutoring. I spent several months as an au pair in southern France where some of my duties included helping the school-aged children (5-13 years old) with their homework.
High School:
I volunteered with a nonprofit tutoring middle and high school immigrants learning English with their humanities work and college applications. For a brief period, I taught as a long-term substitute in a public NYC high school with one of the highest populations of English Language Learners.
University and Graduate Education:
I have eight years of university teaching and design working with a wide range of student populations and types of schools from a public land-grant university to a range of public and private schools across NYC. I have tutored at multiple university writing centers and was appointed a graduate writing coach.
This range and depth of experience has positioned me uniquely to help parents and guardians evaluate their student's education and holistically consider how effective and well-integrated it is into the community and their own goals.
I am deeply invested in assisting parents and guardians who are considering alternative education with researching local opportunities in their budget, planning short and long-term goals, and aligning educational methods and goals with student interests.
I have over a decade experience at all levels of education, from pre-K classrooms to eight years university teaching. Passionate about effective learning design, I've have spent many years in alternative education as well as public and private schools. I bring a wide range of educational theories and models to the table, from my own background as a homeschooled student to my PhD in English literature.
My experience across the landscape of education equips me to offer unique insight into the strengths of various approaches, broadening the horizons of possibility for my clients and helping them find community and support
