Do you ever worry that you won’t achieve everything you know you’re capable of? Do you feel like you’re stuck at your current level, unable to progress?
Would you like to increase the skills you already have? Refine and finesse them so that its easier and quicker to employ them in a more masterful way?
Would like to have more energy throughout your day? Find freedom and ease of motion in all your activities? Are you a performer or artist and your art is taking more of a toll on you?
Are you fighting to perform through pain or fatigue? Are you dealing with chronic conditions?
Would you like to stop living parts of your life on automatic? Bring a more thoughtful and reasoned approach to everything you do?
The Alexander Technique:
If you don’t know what the Alexander Technique is, great! If you do, throw everything you know out the window. We don’t work on posture, do lying down work, or practice “forward and up” in the Interactive Teaching Method, we work on finding the easiest way for you to do everything that you have to do in your very busy lives.
So what does the ITM do, exactly? We teach people how to think. Really, truly think. We believe that everyone is well-made and everyone can reach their dreams, and that you don’t have to learn to do something new to reach those dreams, you first need to learn how to stop. We teach you the skills needed to analyze what's going on in your life, stop doing the ineffective things, make a new plan, and execute it - in other words, the skills to take control of your own life and reach your dreams.
The ITM traditionally teaches in groups, but we can also do 1:1 sessions. Please see my website for more details on pricing and time commitment.
I’m a certified Alexander Technique teacher who uses the Interactive Teaching Method (ITM) and the only practitioner on the east coast. I’m also an actor with an MFA from Bristol Old Vic Theater School and have been an NYC resident for over a decade. I just got into top rope climbing this year, have 2 cats, and am queer. I work to create a safe, supportive, and fun environment where you can take a good look at what you’re doing and more importantly, how you’re doing it.
I believe that this work is for everybody who thinks and/or moves, not just performers. If you want to change a part of your life, I’m here to help you make it a lasting change.
Curious? Have questions? Shoot me an email, I’d love to hear what you’re looking for, and if the Alexander Technique isn’t a good fit, maybe I can recommend something that is!
Certified by the Interactive Teaching Method (https://www.itmalexandertechnique.org/) after a four year training course. I've been a student (and consider this a lifelong practice) of the ITM since attending the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in 2018.
There are only three ITM practitioners in the US, and I'm thrilled to be able to bring this kind of thinking both to the Alexander community in the US and to share it with New Yorkers.
Note that ITM teachers are not medical practitioners or therapists. We are educators. Our training course has a unit on the human body an how it's built and functions and a unit on some basic CBT ideas. You should always go see medical practitioner for an injury and a therapist to deal with trauma and major life challenges.
Willing to travel upstate and to Jersey if we can set up a workshop with multiple participants.
Post a job and gigs listing and ask our community for what you need
