Hello interested viewer!
This gorgeous 1 bedroom is on the ground level of a duplex with a private backyard located in the heart of Bed Stuy, about 12 minutes away (walking) from the C on the Kingston-Throop stop. The room is fully furnished with a large full size bed, homemade bench at the foot of the bed (that I made), nightstands, lamps, great sized closet, and custom recess lights that you can change with an app. The large window looks out into the backyard, and is fixed with blackout curtains so you can get a great sleep. As we're approaching spring/summer this is one of the best seasons for the yard because it truly does feel like a wonderful escape from the city - hear the birds chirping in the morning and watch the yard bloom with all the foliage that grows in the spring/summer making the yard feel like a very private space.
I've hosted friends and family who are always in love with the serenity it provides as it is quite quiet most of the time (though as we get into summer you'll definitely hear music from our surrounding neighbors and this upcoming summer will likely be quite lively after the pretty harsh winter we've had! You will also have your own bathroom, as the apartment has 2 bathrooms (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs in my room).
The room also has a door handle that locks so I can give you the key for the time you're here in case that's important to you ever. Since I do have pets and want to keep the room as pet-free as possible, the door remains closed 95% of the time to keep pets out.
A quick note about the shared space kitchen/LR - I recently changed up the LR quite a bit so am still getting art/etc back on the wall. I wanted to put photos of the current arrangement up though!
About me/the apartment
I've lived in the apartment for almost an entire decade (9 years)! I've had roommates in the past, but am now the sole lease-holder and I have a very good relationship with the owner of the building. I treat this home like it is my permanent one and have put quite a bit of love into it over the years, as is hopefully evident from the photos. I am in between jobs at the moment and in the process of job searching, but have worked in tech previously and so my next role will likely be similar, so I would work from home at least 2 days/week but I have a full office setup downstairs as well, so the upstairs would remain very open even if I'm home working.
I have pets! 1 small dog (15 lbs) I adopted 6 years ago, and 2 kittens (almost 1 year old) that I adopted last summer. I am an extremely clean person and pet hair grosses me out, so although I do have more pets than the average New Yorker, I am fastidious about keeping the space immaculate and pet-hair free for the most part since I clean the place multiple times/week. The cat litterbox is downstairs in my room so completely out of your way.
There is a dishwasher in the kitchen, and washer/dryer (coin-operated ...ugh, i know) in the basement that everyone has access to. There are only 7 units in the building, and I know all of my neighbors. Our building also has a rooftop with a shared community space that we are working on refurbishing as a collective.
Ideal subletter:
Given that I have pets, it would likely be best if you are also a pet-friendly person since my pets love people. Ziggy (my dog) is very well trained and has his own space and keeps to himself so he wouldn't be all over you, and the kittens are curious as cats usually are - Regina (the tuxedo pictured) is not into new people and takes time to warm up, and Kirby (the black cat) is a lover of all (and is even very into dogs).
You must be someone who has a somewhat shared value system in the sense that you are pro-looking out for folks in your community regardless of immigration status, race/gender/religion/etc. I certainly don't expect that we become friends, but I am a very community-driven person and have a vast social network: I love to socialize, but don't have folks over a bunch. As we get into the summer, it's likely I would have a backyard bbq or in the past, I've organized a tie-dye party with neighbors - cute/wholesome things like that. I'm not a bring-the-party home person and would prefer that you are not either!
The rental price includes all utilities.
I am open to shorter term, but minimum 2 months.
To move in, we would sign a sublet agreement and if you want me to hold the space for you, a $200 deposit that I would return to you if you end up not taking it or would go toward your first month's rent. This just lets me know that you are serious about taking it since Listings Project has become a very widely-distributed popular distro and it helps filter out people who are not serious/helps me manage expectations with other folks who express strong interest.
If we are not able to meet in person before you decide to take it, that's ok (sometimes not possible, especially if you are moving here from another country or further away), but we would need to zoom/facetime/etc to meet that way.
I have 3 pets so I'm not super open to another one unless you have a pretty small dog - then let's discuss!
