About this Service

I think we learn languages best when we fall in love with the tradition and culture of the peoples who speak it. New worlds open when we connect the words with the land, history and feelings. My teaching style is focused on making you FEEL the language and achieve fluency by deepening your knowledge of the Latin American region in a fun way.

Each of my lessons is designed according to your interests + a quirky/historical element of the region (from a critical perspective often times as well). No lesson is ever the same and all of them follow my own method, we don't use language textbooks, only the quirkiest and freshest original materials.

To truly get what I mean you should just schedule a free demo lesson, but in the meantime I'll share with you some examples of quirks we've been exploring lately.

Last week, to practice imperfect (a tense that doesn't exist in English; sort of a 'past continuous', but not quite) we read Frida Kahlo's journal entry where she describes how when she was 6 years old, she would go meet her imaginary friend by throwing "vaho" (breath vapor) on a mirror and doodle with her finger a door that led to her magical world, where they would play and dance for hours. Frida mentioned on her journal this was the true story behind her famous painting "Las dos Fridas".

We've also been discussing some ongoing genocides around the world, studying the lingering passion for Mariachi and Ranchero films in Eastern Europe after Tito's Yugoslavia's anti-Hollywood policies, improving rhythm in Portuguese through samba and pagode, chanting protest songs against tyranny and watching fútbol-pitch-invading street dogs.

My students range from total beginners to advanced level students who are preparing for language certification. I recently asked them to send me a paragraph of their experience and you can read their opinions on the images above.

I teach Spanish and Portuguese to students from all over the world both in person and online. I speak English, French, Portuguese and Italian, and am happy to teach to students with those language backgrounds as well.

Classes are $45 per session (75 min, online); let's meet, schedule a demo lesson for free :) !
