WHAT: Your bright space is big enough to fit a queen-sized bed, desk, and dresser, with ample room to make a snow angel on the floor --- and a cavernous closet, possibly suitable for hibernation. We share a 4-bedroom apartment spanning the top floor of a 3-story townhouse, so there's a nice bit of privacy from neighbors. The skylit living room has evolved into a relaxing mix of rainforest and library, home to many plants and books. We also have rooftop access, laundry on our block, and bike storage.

WHERE: We live on 6th Street near 5th Avenue in Park Slope proper, surrounded by no shortage of places to get a great whatever it is you have in mind. Bars, restaurants, almond croissants all abound. 6 minute walk to the R, F, G trains at "4th Ave - 9th St" subway station and a 10 minute walk to Prospect Park, Whole Foods, and the Park Slope Food co-op where I am a member.

YOU: We seek someone who sincerely wants to contribute to the peace we have here, someone who knows that peace in any community is never an accident but a precious effect of care, communication, action, and accountability. We want someone, for example, who will contribute enthusiastically to chores because they care about maintaining quality of life for all in a shared environment, and because they wouldn't want to shift the burden onto others. We want someone, in short, who understands what it means to be a good apartment citizen, someone respectful, kind, and caring in how they interact with each of us and the spaces that we share.

INCLUSIVITY: LGBTQIA+ friendly. All races, ethnicities, gender identities, and sexualities are welcome. Anyone who imagines themselves fitting into and contributing positively to the apartment dynamics described should reach out.

DISH RULE: One rule we all abide: doing dishes right away without ever leaving anything in the sink for later. Fine to leave dirty plates in your own room but not in the sink or around the kitchen. We want someone who is wholly on board with this.

WHAT NEXT: Send me an email conveying some sort of impression of yourself, including your age, what you think about the dish rule, and what you do for work.

About This Lister

We are in our 30s and early 40s, and while we each lead different lives, we are all united by a shared commitment to living here with mindful presence. Eunsun (she/her) is an artist and a high school teacher, Garrett (he/him) works in the art world, and I (she/they) teach at a college; we include a cis straight woman, a cis gay man, and I am queer non-binary. We're quiet, kind, and easy-going, and we take care to make the space peaceful and relaxing—a true sanctuary. Sometimes we share about our lives, but we are also comfortable moving around the kitchen without feeling pressure to engage. The emphasis here has always fallen on the side of giving one another space and privacy.
