I'm looking for a subletter for my personal pied-a-terre apartment from January 1 through April 1 (possibly extension to April 15).

This is a work-from-home dream with a big desk looking out over a private garden, and everything you'd ever want food and culture-wise within a short walking distance. I think of this as my "get stuff done" home.

I'm an art fair director and art collector as well as interior design buff. Everything in the home is either cool mid-century (Cesca chairs, Selig Z armchair) or designer (CB2 queen bed + burl wood desk.) It's an alcove studio but plays like a larger apartment - it's sunlit, well-appointed, and well-divided with a large open area covered in a Moroccan rug, and an oversized outdoor terrace. The art in the apartment in from my personal collection and adds character and depth to the space. There's a Stanmore Marshall bluetooth speaker and working record player with vinyl collection. The kitchen is galley style with stainless appliances + microwave and is very functional for cooking.

I really can't say enough about waking up here. It's cozy for a morning lie-in but spacious, sunlit, and efficient. Having lived in New York for 13 years I can say confidently that the location cannot be beat. There are weeks where I find myself neither needing nor wanting to leave the 10 block radius around me. Right at the intersection of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn, you've got a Trader Joe's across the street, Stumptown on the next block for coffee, dozens of great restaurants (there's a strip of awesome middle eastern places (including the historic Sahadi's Grocery), River Deli in Brooklyn Heights for exceptional Sardinian pastas + orange wine, Hibino for Kyoto-style o-ban-zai (Japanese tapas), the Long Island Bar for NYC's best smashed burger and martini, Bar Tabac for brasserie cuisine and one of my favorite cover bands every Monday; and so many more options to choose from (not to mention the best independent shopping streets in NYC - Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street). That being said, if and when you do choose to pop into Manhattan, every train you'll need is a 5 minute walk away. I often bike over the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridge (there's a CitiBike station in front of the apartment) and you're in the city within 15 minutes that way too.

There's a 24 hour doorman (the staff are the best I've met in NYC), a laundry room on every floor, a central courtyard designed by James Corner Field (the High Line), and the building is pet-friendly. I'm open to a single well-behaved dog (with deposit), and can leave my dog's Fable crate behind with clean bedding as well. I often walk to charming Cobble Hill Park (7-8 minutes) or the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (10-12 minutes) in the mornings with my dog, and suggest both of these.

I'm offering the apartment at $500 less than my actual rent (Wi-Fi included) because I really want someone who cares about it and needs a great space to live and work to occupy it while I can't. It feels a shame for it to be empty. You'll need to qualify with the building and I'd like a damage deposit (negotiable) but otherwise my goal here is just to make sure the home is occupied by great people.

About This Lister

My name is Alex and I'm a multi-spirited creative entrepreneur, who works across several industries. I organize a series of art fairs around the United States, consult on marketing strategy for small businesses and start-ups, produce + distribute films, and serve on the board of numerous non-profits around North America. I love the outdoors: hiking, surfing, fishing as well as indoor activities: reading, cooking, watching films. I have a passion for designing livable spaces that function as a tangible work of art. Each of my homes has a different focus - this one is a garden apartment so I've brought in shades of green coupled with monochromatic artwork and a few pops of color here and there. I always love a good Moroccan rug.

I split my time between this apartment, a mid-century house in Shelter Island, New York (reach out if you're interested in renting it for 1 week to 3 months!), and an apartment in Mexico City's Condesa neighborhood. I speak six languages in varying degrees of fluency depending on the time of day and how much sleep I've had.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

I am the current tenant

Rental requirements

This would be a private agreement with me, the primary tenant, rather than a sublet with the building. As such I would generally like to see a recent credit report, and trade social/LinkedIn information so we can get a sense of each other. If you're NYC-local I'm happy to meet in November/December (I'll be in and out of the city but can schedule time), and otherwise we can do a brief video call to get to know each other.

Pets Policy

The building allows up to 2 dogs with certain breed restrictions (the usual: pit bulls, dobermans, American bull terriers - I can furnish an entire list if you're concerned.)

I'd generally prefer one dog since it's a studio, upon approval.
