About this Service

I am offering 1-hour private lessons on drum kit, at my studio or at your home or studio.

I have been playing drums for 38 years and teaching privately for over 20, & have taught private drum lessons and group workshops at Revival Drum Shop, Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls, and in the Music & Sonic Arts department at Portland Community College.

I wrote a book on how to play the drums - The DIY Guide to Drums. I currently drum in the Secret Drum Band, and played in Kickball, Explode into Colors, and STLS. I have drummed for Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, Tune-yards, Harry & The Potters, Mirah, Tara Jane Oneil, Erase Errata, and the Need.

Lessons are tailored to the students’ particular interests. I specialize in teaching beginning to intermediate levels. I am excited to take on new students of all ages from 7 and up. I love teaching older students who have always wanted to learn! It is never too late.

NOTES on rates:
> 30 minute lessons are suggested for kids 7-8 and are $75*
> For lessons at your home, I charge a $25 fee for round-trip commutes longer than 1h.

About this Lister

Lisa Schonberg is a composer, percussionist, and ecological sound artist, born + raised in Staten Island. Informed by her background in ecology, Schonberg composes music with a focus on cryptic sounds of insects and other underappreciated beyond-humans. She documents soundscapes, insects, and habitat through music composition, writing, and multimedia collaboration, engaging the public in listening to prompt heightened consideration of these soundworlds. Currently she is developing music composition systems that interact with insect sound in real time. Her recent work includes research on ant bioacoustics with entomologists in the Brazilian Amazon, cryptic sound studies with landscape architects in Oregon, detection of cellular frequencies in ant habitats in NY, and music composition concerning Pacific Northwest old-growth forests, Hawaiian endangered bees, fungi, and plastics. Schonberg is a PhD candidate in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
