Hola! I'm Lio, a teacher, musician, and writer from Mexico City and currently living between Mérida and New York.
I think we learn languages best when we fall in love with the tradition and culture of the peoples who speak it. New worlds open when we connect the words with the land, history and feelings. My teaching style is focused on making you feel the language and deepen your knowledge of the Latin American region depending on your interests.
Love talking about chess? Surfing? Plants? Poetry? Revolutions? Let's do that -- in Spanish :) We'll also sing songs, read books, explore art, and have lots of "jijiji-jajaja" with memes and interviews from the 80's and 90's.
Lately in our classes we've been reading Frida Kahlo's poems and letters to her friends, listening to Zapatista's speeches, studying the Malvinas war, watching fútbol-pitch-invading street dogs, and comparing cumbias from different countries and creating our own versions of them as well.
My students range from total beginners to advanced level students who are preparing for language certification. I recently asked them to send me a paragraph of their experience and you can read their opinions on the images above.
I teach Spanish to students from all over the world both in person and online. I speak English, French, Portuguese and Italian, and am happy to teach Spanish to students with those language backgrounds, as well.
Classes are $40/session (75 min aprox) over Google Meet. I can do better rates if we do more than one session per week.
I love music, literature and linguistics. I've traveled around the world as a travel reporter (I have hundreds of publications for mexican newspaper Reforma and magazines like National Geographic Traveler, Travel and Leisure, La Tempestad, Travesías, Gatopardo and some in-flight magazines as well, I can share them if you're interested in travel writing). I've lived in New Zealand, Vietnam, Iceland and Canada. I'm also passionate about ping pong, fútbol, philosophy, rock music, and mainly Anarchism.
I've been a piano & language teacher for 15 years+ and have taught Spanish, English, and French in New Zealand, Mexico, and Vietnam.
I earned a law degree from ITAM (2012) in Mexico City, attended the program on Human Trafficking from the University of Michigan and did a Specialty on International Law as well (ITAM 2016), a as well as an English Proficiency Certificate (C2) from Cambridge.
