Combining the convenience and cleanliness of a new building with the charm of a prewar living, this large, airy apartment has a location that can't be beat: it is Brownstone Brooklyn at its best, steps away from BAM with boutiques and restaurants galore and a great Brooklyn vibe, but convenient it is also just a couple blocks away from a Target, Whole Foods and an Apple Store. It is available for the summer, with the possibility of a longer rental (through fall).
A renovated, four-story rowhouse building on a charming block, the apartment is on the second floor (up one flight of stairs). The walls are freshly painted, and it features a spacious kitchen, including stainless steel appliances and a breakfast bar that opens into open concept living room, dining room and large office nook. It has two bedrooms, both of which overlook the quiet, garden-like back of the building. Both have sliding glass doors to the balcony, which is furnished with a table and chairs and fairy lights for ambient outdoor dining. The apartment is tastefully but minimally furnished--without clutter. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything a cook needs, and the couch, chairs, dining room table and beds recently purchased from Room & Board. One bedroom features a queen size bed; the other has a lovely twin sized day bed with a trundle underneath, making it suitable for a child. The apartment can accommodate a family, with a primary bedroom and a kids room, or multiple adults.
The apartment gets lots of light, but in spite of being full of windows and only one floor up it is not noisy. The front windows, facing the street, are double-paned and noise-canceling. The bedrooms face the lovely backyard.
The location is truly ideal. On the corner of Lafayette Ave. and S. Portland Ave., the apartment is in the heart of Fort Greene and near pretty much every subway line--the G is steps away, the C is half a block, and Atlantic Center with most other lines is a five-minute walk away--Manhattan is literally two stops away; you could not be more convenient to downtown and midtown. But it is also less than a block from neighborhood favorites, including Habana Outpost and Greenlight Books. There is a La Bagel Delight on the block, steps away, and lovely, peaceful Fort Greene park with its weekend farmers market is one block away.
It is truly a dream apartment, one that must be seen to be appreciated, with its combination of space, clean lines, brightness and open-ness and prewar Brooklyn charm.
NOTE: the apartment has a dishwasher, but it does NOT have a washer/dryer: there is a laundromat two doors down that takes drop-off.
I am a novelist who loves Fort Greene and this apartment, but have only been able to use the apartment part-time because I need to spend most of my time upstate. The previous tenants lived in the apartment full-time for five years. They moved out because they were ready to buy and I was not looking to sell. At that point, I repainted and re-furnished the apartment and began using it part-time use but it has never been lived in full-time. This is why it is so uncluttered.
