Hello, I’m Sophia! One of my wonderful roommates is moving out in July to start grad school, and we are looking to fill their room. We’ve been renting a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment in Bushwick. I’ve been living here since September 2024 and have really enjoyed it! It’s on the second floor of a 2-unit building, there’s one set of stairs outside, and a second set of stairs inside. The available room has a lot of natural light, and is in the back of the building, looking out into neighbors’ backyards. The room is 15’ x 7.5’. It easily fits a king size bed, desk/chair, and shelving units. It also has a spacious closet.
We have in unit washer, dryer, and dishwasher! The kitchen was recently renovated and has new appliances. The common space also has a lot of natural light. Our living room is furnished, but we are definitely open to rearranging the furniture and adding more if you have it – it’s a pretty spacious room and could fit more things for sure. We definitely want to discuss how the 3 of us can live best together, so we are down to reimagine the common space together and are flexible in how it’s used and decorated. There is a ladder in the apartment that goes to the roof, only our unit has access to it.
The block we’re on is typically peaceful and mainly families live on it. We are 10-15 min walk between the Myrtle Wyckoff L+M and Halsey St J – we’re close to Irving Square Park. We are 10 min walk from a 24-hour Food Bazaar, and close to tons of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, etc.
A bit about me and my roommate Chea who you’d live with:
I’m Sophia (she/her), I’m a lesbian. I’m a scientist and work in person Monday-Friday. I love riding my bike and being outside. I’m a leftist who ideally would live with someone who is anti-imperialist, pro prison abolition, anti-cop, and likes to imagine a new world free of oppression. I like to get drinks, go dancing, watch documentaries, read, and participate in mutual aid. I’d love to do these things with a new roommate, and also down to join you in whatever activities you enjoy. I enjoy chatting with roommates after work, but also totally understand when someone wants to be alone. It’d be awesome to live with someone who is interested in the potential to become friends.
I'm Chea (they/them), your other roommate, and I've been here since September. I'm usually home until the late morning when I leave to go to work in the afternoon and won't be back until 11ish at night. I work at wholefoods in long island so I do spend most of my time home cooking. My two days off vary from week to week, so that will be a chance to get to me if you can't in the morning. I tend to be reserved and keep to myself but am willing to socialize every now and then. Occasionally, I go out to see the nightlife or have a picnic. Other than that, I have a simple routine.
In terms of keeping the common space clean, in the last year together we have mainly relied on everyone cleaning up after themselves. Occasionally we will all agree to do a deeper clean. We keep the common space tidy, but we know life gets busy and are accepting of things like dishes in the sink for like a day. This is what worked for us in the past, but we would want to discuss with you how you want to maintain the common space.
We usually send a message in our group chat when we’re having people over, and if we plan to have guests stay later into the night, we typically check in first. It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally friends might stay late or crash on the couch. Ideally, we’d love to live with someone who’s okay with this kind of thing, as long as it’s communicated ahead of time. Of course, we’re totally open to discussing and setting expectations together.
If you think that we’d live well together, we’d appreciate it if you could email and let us know the following:
•Your name/pronouns
•A bit about yourself and interests, politics, schedule, etc.
•What you’re looking for in a space and a roommates
•When you could move into the apartment (ie does it have to be July 1 or could it be later in July?)
•How long you want to be in an apartment (Ideally you would sign onto a 1-year lease starting July 1, but there is some flexibility)
•Of course, please provide any additional information you want!
