This is a bright and spacious apartment on the third floor of a walk-up. The building is a classic Chicago brownstone, on a tree-lined street, 5-minutes away from Lake Michigan. The apartment is fully furnished. It has one bedroom, a living room with an office-corner set-up, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom equipped with a tub. The bedroom has access to the balcony, which has two-chairs, a small table, & a parasol for summer lounging. The apartment has a powerful air conditioning unit.
Building: This is a very quiet building, with kind neighbors. Our street is fairly quiet, but the occasional siren will pass and you might hear some rumblings during rush hour, when there is a heavy traffic on 55th st. We have video surveillance in the lobby & entry. There is a bike room in the basement, as well as a laundry room with a couple of washer and dryer machines.
Neighborhood & Access: The apartment is a 18-minute walk to the University of Chicago campus, or 7 minutes on a bike. It is a hop-skip and a jump away from Promontory Point, a peninsula which juts into Lake Michigan, where you will find lovely views and a promenade alongside a bike lane which goes all the way up into the Loop (downtown). The apartment is about 10-12 minutes from the shops on 53rd st., including Whole Foods, Target, and smaller coffee shops and restaurants. Transportation includes a Metra stop (regional train) around the corner, as well as express-bus station across the street (#6 bus), and #171 & #55 local buses.
Conditions: The monthly cost includes all utilities, which covers heat, gas, water, electricity and high-speed internet. This is a smoke-free apartment (smoking on the balcony is allowed), and you should keep the noise level down on weeknights. I have a good relationship with my neighbors and I'd like to keep it this way. I am looking for someone (or a couple) to take it for the entire month of October (move-in date flexible — possible start in September) but would be open to a minimum of a two-week stay. I have a good amount of closet space and I will be storing my clothes away so there is space for your belongings.

I am a historian, currently teaching at the University of Chicago. I often work in the archives outside of the United States. My place has lots of plants — none of them very fussy, but watering care would be much appreciated! My cat will be out of the apartment, but please note if you are allergic, this is probably not the best option for you.
