We are inviting proposals for our inaugural painting residency built around the existence of 5 large canvases.
Opportunity
A membership to our shared work space for the length of the residency (June–August)
Up to five untreated canvases measuring at 72” x 54"
Continued use of our space as a selling gallery for these paintings after completion
A lunch stipend equaling 3 Ten Ichi sushi’s a week ($500)
Painting
Painting is here defined expansively. You may treat the canvases as surfaces, windows, objects, targets, etc. We welcome artists with diverse and dissonant perspectives as well as traditional ones. Multimedia strategies are welcome but ultimately the work should live on these canvases. Whatever the process may be it should yield objects that sit somewhat comfortably within the continuum of painting.
Expectation
The expected outcome is that the proposed paintings are finished by the end of the residency, on August 31st. Please consider this constraint in your plan for approach and execution and how many canvases you'd want to use. Understand that you will be working among us. People will be in the space everyday, working, so we cannot accommodate for any toxic materials, or loud and disruptive processes. We are open to collaborative practices but would not be able to accommodate collectives made up of more than two people. We are open to collaborating on strategies and efforts to secure access to materials. A percent of the painting sales will be applied to the purchase materials for new canvases so that we may run the residency again, the rest is for the artist to keep. We are open to collaborating on an event/party in the space to mark the end of the residency.
Membership to the Space
You’d get what we call a ‘hot desk’ membership meaning you wouldn’t have a designated desk to call home but could sit anywhere at the larger tables for desktop work as well as a provisional station for painting.
Selection Process
We will review all applications on a rolling basis until May 24th. On a rolling basis, select prospects will be invited to come in and meet us to talk through your vision as an informal interview.
This residency is being managed by Lucas Albrecht.

We share a space in Boerum Hill we work out of. You may think of it as an invitation-only co-working space designed to break even for friends to work alongside each other. Some of our members work together and some of our members don’t work at all. This is a place for work, we do not offer housing along with the residency.
