This four-bedroom Craftsman-meets-Colonial Revival creekside property located in the heart of the vibrant village of Chatham, NY, is now available for Fall thru Spring occupancy. We're looking for a responsible, quiet-living, caring person, couple, family or housemates. Pets will be considered.
On the first floor, there is the ample dining room, the study with its bookcases and beamed ceiling; and the living room with a wood-burning fireplace. All the rooms have antique furnishings as can be seen in the pics.
The bright 13' x 15' kitchen combines charming vintage details with modern functionality and is well equipped for people who like to cook, whether alone or as a group. An adjacent pantry leads to the first floor bathroom.
In the gracious entry hall is the oak staircase (there is also a back stair). Upstairs, two of the bedrooms have queen-size beds, and two of them have double beds. There's also a double bed in the wonderful sleeping porch, which is an unheated 5th bedroom. Two full bathrooms are on this floor, newly remodeled but with vintage styling. One has a big clawfoot bathtub; the other has a splendid shower with a steam-bath function.
The expansive, well-lit basement houses our work studios which aren't intended for tenant use, but the large laundry room has the washer, dryer, three washtubs and five clothes lines. There is also a half-bathroom down there.
Outside, there are 2.3 acres of land keeping the neighbors at a polite distance, with the creek serving as the back boundary. A large portion of the yard adjacent to the house is fenced to (perhaps) keep a dog in, as well as to keep the deer out. There is a detached carriage barn in which two cars could be parked.
The backdoor opens to a wooded slice of countryside; from the front door, walk up the hill and be on Chatham’s quaint and busy Main Street in about four minutes. Enjoy the newly restored Crandell Cinema, a multitude of remarkable specialty stores, yoga, banking, Chatham Brewery, a friendly pub, and truly amazing dining. The surrounding towns are also known for a variety of sumptuous restaurants. For stocking the pantry, there is the sizable Price Chopper at the edge of town, the mostly organic Berry Farm just outside of town, and the Real Food co-op in the middle of town, to name a few. The region is still predominantly bucolic pastureland with working farms, and a great number of the local business proprietors are creative former New Yorkers, so the commercial atmosphere is full of pleasant surprises.
The distance to the Amtrak station in Hudson is 25 minutes, and the rail ride is 2 hours to Penn Station, NYC.
A cleaning person is engaged for bi-weekly cleaning, included in the rent. A young man is on call to shovel snow from the village sidewalk out front. The front porch steps are equipped to melt snow automatically.
Just imagine the holidays at your big, cozy village house! Don't miss this chance to live that dream.
We're a couple and a friend who bought this 1912 house in 2013, the first time it had ever been sold. It has been an ongoing restoration project, which is still five rooms short of completion. though it is charming and cozy throughout.
We two are off to Europe for the next few months, and our co-owner will be in NYC.
$3000 security deposit.
Dogs and cats could be considered.
