We are looking for individuals who light up in the presence of children. Who understand the secret language of children. Who value this time in their lives as it will never come again.
You don't need to have a background in education.
You need to be willing to learn, to have grit, determination, to have the ability to model passion, patience, drive for the children. Storytelling ability is a plus. Can you make characters come alive with your voice?
The days are full of challenge but full of joy. You can be yourself, children can always sense when someone is full of artifice.
The position would start in the summer. Working parents need their children in school all summer long. But we are flexible. If you need to take a break, let us know with enough time in advance and we always try to find coverage.
We encourage the application of people with other interests and hobbies. In the past this position has been ideal for artists with a practice that they pursue in half of their time. You don't have to be an artist, maybe you love children and also carpentry. Maybe you would like this to be your prime occupation. We are open to a wide range of realities.
Working with children is to venture into another realm daily. Somehow it always helps you understand your own.

We are a preschool located in Bed-Stuy, New York, focused on the development of children, helping them transition into a life of community.
We respect the intelligence of children and understand the importance of our role in sculpting their development through interactions, engagement and storytelling. Storytelling, indeed, serves to connect generations and introducing storytelling at an early age gives children a way to structure their reality.
We also highlight the importance of interpersonal relationships. Teaching children how to treat each other and the adults in their lives is one of our most important tasks.
Art is also at the heart of our day. Mark-making is a tool for internal development and children need to get their hands on and around many different tools. First, a color emerges. Then the ability to create intention around color. Art and this type of mark-making is key for a child's ability to know themselves.
Every year we evolve as an institution. You would be an important part of this world.
